Longer Lives website – looking for your vote and your feedback - Philippa Lynch

Public Health England’s Longer Lives website makes England’s mortality data accessible to everyone.  Launched in 2013 it provides clear visualisation of data on premature deaths across local authorities in England, focusing on the four most common causes of mortality in England – heart disease and stroke, lung disease, liver disease, and cancer. Longer lives highlights inequalities in premature mortality across the country and provides examples of effective local interventions.

The maps and local authority data pages use a red, orange, yellow and green colour key to indicate how the individual premature mortality rates in local authorities compare. Comparisons are by disease, with the national average, or with local authorities of similar socioeconomic status.

Longer Lives is just beginning, and you have an opportunity to help shape its future.

The project is currently in its early stages. However, new data sets will be introduced continuously, including data for county districts. This development, along with improvements made in response to your feedback, will help the project become ever more useful to local decision-makers.

A user survey is now live on the site. Please use this or connect  with the site to share your feedback on the current beta version of the Longer Lives website and data, and ways it can be developed to better support your needs.
