“ Do you know how to land this ?”

Every air craft needs a pilot for take off and landing  These are the difficult bits of flying. It’s the same with organisations the difficult bits are getting lift off, it requires a lot of energy,  skill and knowledge. The pilot has a clear destination in mind but still needs to plot the route. There are a lot of things to get right before take off. There is a lot of information to process. Take off itself is very exciting but it’s also the most risky part of the journey and people need to be briefed as to what to do should anything go wrong.

The volume of noise increases dramatically as the aircraft goes into a very steep climb. After take off things quieten down, people relax there may be a warning of turbulence ahead but the pilot reassures the passengers that it can be avoided. However the fact that Health and Safety recommend the wearing of seat belts throughout the flight makes some people nervous.

It’s at this point that there is an announcement that the pilot is leaving but the co pilot will take over until a new pilot is on board. With the destination still some way off there is a realisation that the most risky part of the journey is trying to land the plane! Perhaps this is why the new pilot has just announced a change in destination to a less busy airport with a longer runway and no mountain to avoid.
