Consultation on the Survey of the Mental Health of Children and Young People 2016 - Philippa Lynch

NatCen Social Research and the Office for National Statistics (ONS) have been commissioned by the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) to carry out the Survey of the Mental Health of Children and Young People (MHCYP) 2016.

This will be the first survey of children and young people to focus on their mental health since 2004. The survey will provide data on the prevalence of mental illness among children and young people in England and Scotland and collect robust data on a range of topics relating to the mental health of these groups. It will be similar to the 2004 survey and will collect information from children and young people and from their parents and teachers.

The majority of the survey content will remain the same as it was in 2004 so that we can measure how things have changed over time. There is no scope to extend the length of the survey but there is some scope to change a small amount of the survey to collect information on new areas.

Consultation

NatCen would like to hear your views about the survey content for 2016:

• Which existing areas the survey should continue to cover;
• Whether there are new question areas that should be included;
• Where new question areas are suggested, which areas these should replace in the survey. 

Please keep in mind that the survey length is already at a maximum and so wherever new content is suggested, this must be substituted for something else. The consultation questionnaire can be completed online until January 5th 2016.
