Local Area Walking and Cycling

The Department for |Transport have released a report which reveals that there has been a statistically significant increase in the percentage of people walking frequently in England.  Published on 12 July 2016, the report show that 50.6% of people walked at five times a week, up 6.9% from 2012. Figures also reveal that there has been no statistically significant change in reported cycling prevalence in England overall, but there is variation amongst local authorities. This Statistical Release presents information on walking and cycling by adults (aged 16 and over) in England for local authorities and regions for the year ending mid-October 2015. The statistics in this release are based on results from the Active People Survey (APS) administered by Sport England. Data on cycling rates are available on a consistent basis from the survey for 5 years and 3 years for walking rates.

This release includes

Table CW0103: Proportion of residents who do any walking or cycling, for any purpose, at least once per month by local authority

Table CW0104: Proportion of how often and how long adults cycle for by local authority

Table CW0105: Proportion of how often and how long adults walk for (at least 10 minutes) by local authority
