UPDATE: The MAX project team are hosting a series of information sharing events in London to provide MAX toolkit users with opportunities to learn how to get the most from the toolkit and to hear how other local authorities have used the toolkit elements. The events are free to attend and will include lunch. Travel expenses will also be reimbursed. The first event will be hosted at Friends House (NW1 2BJ) on Monday 3rd October 2016 (11.00 – 16.00) and will be repeated in November and December (dates and venue to be confirmed). MAX is a project funded by the Department of Health via the Quality and Outcomes of Person-centred Care Policy Research Unit (QORU), based at the University of Kent. The aim of this project was to find ways to maximise the local relevance, value and use of data from the Adult Social Care Survey (ASCS) and Personal Social Services Survey of Adult Carers in England (PSS SACE or Carers; Survey) for local planning and performance improvement (e.g. via outcomes based commissioning).
All local authorities (LAs) in England are required to conduct annual surveys of their adult social care service users and biennial surveys of the informal carers they support. These surveys, known as the Adult Social Care Survey (ASCS) and Personal Social Services Survey of Carers in England (PSS SACE) respectively, are used to populate a large number of the indicators within the Adult Social Care Outcomes Framework (ASCOF).
The MAX toolkit is written primarily for LA staff who are involved in running and analysing data from the ASCS and PSS SACE (e.g. analysts, front-line staff, back-office staff, finance officers, information technology and management officers). LA staff involved in the management of the survey process or who want to make use of the survey data to inform local performance and practice improvements (e.g. to inform local outcomes-based commissioning practices) may also find the toolkit useful.
