Survey - How Health Infrastructure Needs are Taken into Account in Planning and Development - Philippa Lynch

The Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) is undertaking a survey to examine practical issues relevant to taking into account healthcare needs and infrastructure by Local Authorities in the (town and country) planning process (local plans and planning applications for new developments). This project forms part of the Association's Reuniting Health with Planning initiative. 

 

National planning policy and legislation requires the planning process to consider health and care infrastructure needs by working with relevant providers. But there is no nationally-prescribed guidance or advice. While there are areas of good practice, through TCPA's activities, there are constant calls for greater clarity and guidance to help inform better practice. In 2010, the planning process secured more than £13 million for health services from development. Can planners and health professionals work better together to help improve investment in the NHS as part of local growth aspirations?  

In order for TCPA to provide support, the first step to gather feedback from practitioners working in Local Authorities, Clinical Commissioning Groups, health and social care providers, national and local health and planning agencies. While this survey takes the English context, responses from devolved nations also welcome. This short survey should take no more than 10 minutes so thank you in advance.
