Academy online seminar

featuring

Mark Burns-Williamson OBE

Police and Crime Commissioner for West Yorkshire

The word “slavery” conjures up images of shackles and transatlantic ships – depictions that have been consigned to the history books, but according to the Global Slavery Index, there are 40.3 million people held in slavery across the world today.

In this free online seminar Mark will focus on the response to modern slavery, both across West Yorkshire and nationally, during his time in office.

Mark will discuss the issues and challenges of responding to modern slavery, best practice, what success looks like and how law enforcement and other agencies have overcome the challenges to improve investigations, convictions and victim support. Mark will also look at the importance of partnership working and how and why the response to the crime of modern slavery and victim support has evolved.
