GSS Engagement Strategy - for Sub-national Data Users

Events - Public

Starting 05 Aug 2020 - 13:00 through to 05 Aug 2020 - 14:00

ONS have invited LARIA members to an online workshop they are holding for users of sub-national statistics, to shape the way data are produced and developed.

Building on existing outreach, including public consultations, economic seminars, local industrial strategies and workshops with cities through the Devolution programme, the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee recommended that the UK Statistics Authority should develop a strategy for engaging all users of official statistics.

The provision of high-quality, accessible statistics and data is vital to the effective functioning of policy and decision-making processes in the UK. From examples of good practice, to areas of ongoing frustration, ONS would like to invite you to share your knowledge and experiences of using their data to help them shape this new strategy.

Please join ONS for a one-hour interactive discussion on 5 August to share your experiences of using government statistics and engaging with departments so they can explore:

  • What you use government statistics for

  • How you access government statistics

  • What you do if you can’t find the data you need

  • How you currently engage with producers of government statistics

  • How you would like producers of government statistics to engage with you

They will be using the Mentimeter polling system to collect your views in real time, and encourage active discussion throughout. They’re keen to ensure their research reflects a wide range of perspectives, in particular the local and sub-national perspective from users such as you to help them ensure official statistics meet society’s needs.

Please join Tegwen Green and Nancy Singh (GSS Good Practice Team, ONS) and James Harris and Andy Morton (Centre for Sub-national Analysis, ONS) on 5 August.  They look forward to seeing you.
