This free event will demonstrate the financial and environmental savings that are possible by sharing resources and equipment within and between organisations- using Sunderland City Council and Northumberland County Council's experiences as a case study.

The event will interest those in Local Authority, NHS, HE/FE, Central Govt, LSPs and private sector organisations.  In particular, those in procurement, sustainable development, finance, waste, facilities management and shared services.

After a major restructure, in April last year Sunderland City Council started using an online resource management tool to safely and conveniently redistribute surplus and underused resources within the organisation. Using the system, the Council has saved almost £80K in avoided procurement.

In this programme 2 North East England councils, (one metropolitan and one rural) give their insight into improving efficiencies using a resource redistribution network called WARPit.

An officer/manager (TBC)  from Glasgow City Council, will introduce the programme outlining what the organisation is doing to reduce environmental impact in the City.

Daniel O’Connor from WARPit  will outline the movement known as Collaborative Consumption  and the impact this is having on organisational resource efficiency.

Daniel will introduce WARPit the resource sharing/swapping service for organisations which is delivering significant resource savings and other benefits for Sunderland City Council, Northumberland County Council and other public sector organisations in the North East and beyond.

Hillary Phillips, Support Services Manager, Sunderland City Council will give an insight via video into how Sunderland City Council have saved nearly £80,000 in 12 months using WARPit as well as avoiding almost 35 tonnes of CO2 and 15 tonnes of waste.

Andrew Copeland from the Sunderland Partnership,  will explain via video how WARPit is being rolled out to large organisations in the city to create the first city wide organisational sharing network in the UK.

Julie Parkinson Procurement Category Specialist,  will outline via video how Northumberland County Council have managed to save £40,000 in only 2 months of use, and how the service is helping the local economy.

Daniel will then go on to demonstrate the system before taking any questions.
The event culminates in buffet lunch and networking.
