The programme includes eight workshops and five plenary speakers, including a representative from the Department of Health Bill Team responsible for the draft Care and Support Bill, the British Institute of Human Rights, 39 Essex Street Chambers, the Association for Palliative Care, Manchester City Domestic Abuse/Adult Abuse team, the Care Quality Commission, Mike Briggs from ADASS, David Congdon formerly from Mencap, Professor June Andrews from Stirling University, Dr David Orr from Sussex University, Tim Spencer Lane from the Law Commission, and Emma Jones from Leigh Day solicitors.

Topics covered will include an update on the progress of the draft Care and Support Bill, Human Rights and capacity – how can we best safeguard people’s rights?, Inherent jurisdiction and the Mental Capacity Act, Palliative care and Liverpool pathway, Domestic Abuse, Adult Abuse – two sides of the same coin?, the future direction of the Care Quality Commission, the current strategic thinking of ADASS in relation to Adult Safeguarding, Safeguarding and Learning Disability, Protection, consent and capacity, Should self-neglect be automatically a part of safeguarding?, the Law Commission and Hate Crime, and Corporate Neglect and abuse – the role of litigation in preventing abuse.

Cost: Members £120 plus VAT; Non members £151 plus VAT (Non members can join for a fee of £21 and save £10 on the conference cost).
