Learn how the LGA of online tools can help improve your services 7 Mar

Events - Public

Starting 07 Mar 2013 - 10:00 through to 07 Mar 2013 - 16:01

We are running a number of regional events to showcase how our online services can help councils tackle their challenges and take advantage of opportunities to deliver better value for money.

Local government is responsible for delivering over 1000 unique services against a backdrop of increased demand, reduced resources, and changing expectations.

It’s no longer enough to just be better. We need to pull together and share our knowledge in order to realise the savings necessary to protect the front-line while still delivering quality services

Background

Taking an in-depth look at three scenarios these events will explore how the LGA’s online tools can provide new ways to understand the services you provide, manage performance, target and understand service users, share learning, and save money. The afternoon’s workshops will focus on our online support in more detail: the esd-toolkit, the Knowledge Hub, LG Inform; plus activity based costing, customer profiling and business case tools.

We are holding six events in early 2013.

London/South East, 24 January, London

South West, 29 January, Taunton

North East, 19 February, Durham

Midlands, 27 February, Birmingham

Yorkshire/Humber, 7 March, Barnsley

North West, 26 March, Preston

Aims of the event

To demonstrate a small selection of key online tools and services that can be used in isolation or together.

The following scenarios will be used to demonstrate the tools:

  • Improved and more productive support to ‘troubled families’.
  • Increased recycling take-up and reduced landfill charges.
  • Improved and healthier lifestyles through increased take-up of gyms and other leisure facilities.

 Who should attend?

Although open to all councillors and local government officers, places are limited and priority is given to esd-toolkit participants.

We recommend that those with the following areas of responsibility will gain the most benefit:

  • policy and performance
  • customer services
  • business analysis
  • information management.

Agenda

  • Introductory briefing on the role and content of the LGA’s online tools. (40 mins)
  • Facilitated discussion dissecting the three scenarios being considered, how to tackle each, and the online support available.  (90 mins)
  • Lunch
