The APM’s 2020 vision is a world in which every project succeeds.

Benefits realisation is the ultimate goal of every project or programme yet there are still many that continue to deliver limited success despite significant business imperatives for organisations, including cost reduction. The issues can be complex and emotive yet successful benefits realisation is within the grasp of every organisation.

This conference considers key issues through examining the latest innovation around benefits realisation. In addition, a number of case studies will provide practical insight into making benefits happen in 2012.

A valuable day for people looking to achieve results. Sessions include the following and the full agenda will be available shortly.

Speaker

Session

Reports on key issues

Sarah Harries

Thought leadership reports: Winning hearts and minds

Peter Hawkins

Building organisation capability - Whilst many organisations have established an approach to managing benefits, the failure rate of projects and programmes is still alarmingly high. The current pressures on executives (including the economic climate, increased regulation, public sector cuts, businesses struggling for survival) means that the need for effective benefits delivery has never been greater.

This session will challenge organisations to move from a culture of delivery to one of also creating sustainable value from investment in change.

Tanya Durlen

Integrating benefits management into the life of an organisation.

John Thorp

Thought leadership report 4: Beyond business as usual to value as usual - extending benefits management to the full life cycle of an investment decision.

Case studies and voice of experience

Terry Cooke-Davies

An insight into research into benefits realisation approaches and some ideas on how to measure successful benefits realisation capability.

David Forbes

BT has had a significant input to the 2012 Olympics. Whilst the business case at the time defined specific benefits, David has been looking at how the assets delivered for the Olympics can supply further value.

Craig Higton

Building a benefits based portfolio of improvement programmes in a public sector organisation (Vehicle & Operator Services Agency - VOSA).

Matt Rawson / Christine Rigby

This session is a case study of an organisation that has been implementing portfolio management from a benefits management driven perspective.

Jacqueline Smith

Setting benefits management in context - Jackie will share her experience of the differing benefits management models required in the context of different stakeholder regimes:

• Joint ventures
• Strategic partnerships
• Customer / supplier
• Internal.

David Shannon

The ownership of benefits after project and programme closure.

Paul Summers

Benefits management: the keystone of project management considers the question Can benefits management be used as a driver to improve project management? The session is based on Paul's award winning postgraduate award for his report on his experiences in a UK unitary local authority.
