Communications data is an important tool for investigators and provides an invaluable means by which the law enforcement agencies and relevant public authorities can better safeguard the public. But our current capability was not designed to deal with the growth in the use of mobile and internet-based communications.

The UK ACPO Data Communications Group (DCG), in partnership with the Home Office, College of Policing (CoP) and MPS (Directorate of Forensic Services) would like to invite you to attend their Lawful Acquisition of Communications Data Seminar on the 21st March 2013. This will be a valuable opportunity to discuss some of these issues and solutions being proposed.

The broad thematic areas for the seminar tracks are expected to be:

• Policy and Legislation (RIPA and DPA)

• Processes and Procedures

• Social Media and Open Source

There will be an exhibition hall with approved vendors sharing their commercial innovation, resourcing opportunities and technical know-how. Presentations will highlight the benefits of the various products and services on display, demonstrating improved intelligence and evidence gathering opportunities.

Designed and developed for relevant public authorities that may acquire communications data under the provisions of RIPA Part 1 Chapter 2.

• These sessions will provide case studies

• help and advice on the interpretation of relevant legislation (both RIPA and DPA)

• communications data opportunities and the regulatory oversight process

• The benefits of ACPO/CoP forming a liaison to your local authority and an introduction to the National Anti Fraud Network.

• Social media and Open Source searching, who and how you should contact and what data you expect to obtain
