Nobody should have to live in fear. Hate crime has a damaging effect on victims and it can make whole communities feel unsafe and unwelcome. Victims are likely to be physically and emotionally distressed and may be forced to move home. They may also suffer finanacial loss, for example through having to make repairs to property.
The good news is that something can be done about hate crime. Systems and protocols can be developed so that the victims can be protected and the perpetrators brought to justice.
