Speaker: Dr Pietro Micheli, Warwick Business School

Measuring and managing performance is not just about understanding and reporting performance (organisational and individual); it is also a way to motivate employees. Unfortunately, measurement tools - such as dashboards, scorecards and appraisals – sometimes play a negative role in organisations, as they are perceived as pure monitoring and controlling mechanisms, and they tend to be ignored, if not opposed, by staff. In this webinar, we will discuss how, instead, they can be used to motivate people and lead to improved performance. In particular, we will look at how they can help: (1) create organisational alignment; (2) engage individuals; and (3) enable them to learn and improve through performance reviews.

Pietro Micheli is Associate Professor of Organizational Performance at Warwick Business School. His main areas of expertise are: Performance Measurement and Management, Continuous Improvement, and Innovation Management. Pietro has worked with over 50 organisations, including: BP, Emirates, KLM, Shell, Tata Group, Council of Europe, UK Department of Health, UAE Government, and the United Nations. In Scotland, he has worked with Edinburgh City Council, Perth and Kinross Council, the Scottish Qualification Authority and Visit Scotland. In 2009-2011 he was a Director at the Italian Commission for evaluation in Rome. He has been a Visiting Professor and Lecturer at a dozen European Universities, run open executive courses and workshops, and speaks fluent English, Italian, French and Spanish.
