In July 2015, the APM launched its publication “Planning Scheduling Monitoring and Control: The Practical Project Management of Time, Cost and Risk”. Aimed specifically as a hands-on guide to project controls, it has found an eager audience and has been widely praised. The guide is the result of 2 years work by the APM’s Planning Monitoring and Control SIG and was followed by the introduction of two project controls qualifications. These aim to raise understanding of and set standards in the project controls discipline. Offered at introductory and practitioner level, they can benefit both individuals and organisations. For individuals, this can promote an understanding of minimum standards and best practice. For organisations this can lead to greater predictability of outcomes and better integration between scheduling, costing and other controls functions.

This event will give an overview of both the guide and the qualifications, explaining how they can be accessed and used and also give more details on the course syllabus and exam content. It is hoped that greater use of the guide and good uptake of the qualifications will enhance the ability of both professionals and organisations in the local area to achieve project success.
