How safe is my bike?

This event is aimed at people who cycle into Reading for work or leisure and those who would like to.

We will explain that while much is being done about cycling safety, more needs to be done about cycle security to assure cyclists they can leave their bike and it will still be there when they return.

We’ll describe the difference between commuter needs for cycle storage and ad-hoc shopper or leisure bike parking and outline potential solutions, which already exist elsewhere. We will also explore the audience’s views on the scale of the problem, how it might be addressed and how solutions might encourage them to do more local journeys by bike.

The desired outcomes are:

  • a better awareness of the issue of cycle security
  • an understanding of how this affects potential cyclist behaviour
  • support for the solutions we have identified
  • and collecting ideas of other possible solutions
