Bring Brent Home – the story of the Brent decommissioning project so far

Events - Public

Starting 09 Dec 2020 - 12:30 through to 09 Dec 2020 - 13:30

The Brent field is situated in the North Sea 116 miles offshore, halfway between the Shetland Islands and Norway.

It consists of four large platforms; Alpha, Bravo, Charlie and Delta. After 40+ years of producing oil and gas, the field is now being taken out of service, or ‘decommissioned’.

Decommissioning Brent is a complex, major engineering project, because of its size, age, the type of infrastructure, and the harsh environment of the North Sea.

Preparations started more than 10 years ago, and with the removal of Alpha in 2020, there now remains only the last and largest platform – Charlie. Through close collaboration with the supply chain, technology development and applying lessons learned from previous campaigns, Shell UK hope Charlie will be the safest and most efficiently decommissioned platform to date.
