The UK has one of the biggest gambling markets in the world, generating a profit of £14.2 billion in 2020. Research has shown that harms associated with gambling are wide-ranging, not only for the individual gambler but their families, close associates and wider society.

In this free seminar we will start by exploring problem gambling from a health perspective from The Office of Office of Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) who will share their findings from a recent health review on gambling-related harms.

Steve will then share the devastating consequences of gambling harms and how it can affect mental health and wellbeing.

Finally Andrea will discuss the interim policy findings of the Commission on Crime and Problem Gambling. The Commission was established in 2019 by the Howard League and is chaired by Lord Goldsmith QC and they recently published an interim review. During her talk Andrea will give a summary of their work so far, key findings and initial recommendations for change.
