A basic income has been proposed as a solution to a number of contemporary social problems: automation and technological change, insecurity in the labour market, poverty and lack of dignity in social security systems.

However, a basic income faces a number of major challenges.

Ashwin has been a social policy economist for over 20 years and in this free online seminar he will draw upon recent research evaluating a basic income for Scotland to set out five key challenges that must be overcome for a basic income to be feasible.
