Accelerating Your Development Through Mentoring

Events - Public

Starting 21 Feb 2023 - 18:00 through to 21 Feb 2023 - 20:30

This discussion will help you understand how being a mentor and/or being mentored can accelerate your personal and professional development.

Exploring the differences between personal development and professional development, and why both are so important, as well as emphasising the principles of effective development, the enablers, and how mentoring is the “accelerator”.

Mentoring is widely understood and increasingly prevalent in the work-place, not least of all because there are positive benefits for the mentee, the mentor, and the organisation. Structured mentoring programmes, such as the one launched this year by the APM, provide access to a wealth of mentoring opportunities for project professionals.

In the same way as conventional training opportunities, mentoring needs to be understood and approached in the wider context of our personal and professional development. There has to be a purpose and a benefit.

This discussion focuses on establishing and sustaining effective mentoring relationships but puts mentoring – as a mentor or as a mentee – at the heart of personal and professional development best practice. Richard Tulley will lead the discussion, seeking audience engagement, and answering questions as they arise.

By attending this event you will gain clarity and understanding in respect of:

  • Personal and Professional Development – what they mean, the principles, the approach, and why they are equally important to project professionals
  • How people learn and develop – the 70 20 10 model
  • Mentoring fundamentals – history, evolution, and core principles, such as non-directive learning
  • How to enter in to – and sustain – positive mentoring relationships
