Why do projects fail?

Events - Public

Starting 21 Mar 2023 - 17:30 through to 21 Mar 2023 - 20:30

We are delighted to invite APM Student and Associate members to join a debate on “Do major projects fail due to structural/organisational issues (ref Denicol et al 2021) or behavioural bias (ref Flyvberg 2022)” chaired by Joseph Lee and with speakers from Mott MacDonald, an APM Corporate Partner.

As well as being an insightful panel discussion where you can learn and contribute to the debate, you’ll also have the opportunity to reconnect with your peers from a range of different sectors in an easy-to-reach venue.

Welcome back!

Our first face-to-face Emerging Professional Network event since 2019 welcomes APM Student and Associate Members to a discussion on the reasons for project failure, and specifically major projects.

The discussion will focus on two areas – issues with the organisation or structure of a project, and behavioural biases – that’s to say, beliefs or behaviours that can unconsciously influence the decision-making process.

The hosts for the event are Mott MacDonald, an APM Corporate Partner and global consultancy. Joseph Lee, Mott’s Practice Leader for Project Programme and Commercial, will be chairing the session with a panel of project professionals from the organisation.

You will be very welcome to share your views and ask questions of the panel at this event.

Please be assured, you don’t need to have experience of major projects to attend this event.

We expect (and hope) that many of you will be attending to reconnect with your network and to make new links, as well as to gain knowledge in this important area.
