Tackling Gang Violence and Exploitation

featuring

Claire MacDonald Senior Crown Prosecutor Crown Prosecution Service

Evan Jones Director of Criminal Exploitation Development St Giles Trust

Gang violence and criminal exploitation is ever present in the news and in this free seminar we offer an insight into the prosecution of these offenders and share some of the work that is being done to both prevent and rehabilitate those affected by gangs, youth violence and criminal exploitation.

Claire is a Senior Crown Prosecutor at the Crown Prosecution Service* and specialises in the most serious and complex of casework, which includes the impact of gang related offending and offences involving exploitation. In this seminar Claire will speak about her work with the police and other stakeholders and discuss how charging decisions are made, what can be involved in bringing cases to court and what makes a case a success.

Evan is Director of Criminal Exploitation Development at St Giles Trust** and since 2006 he has been leading the work St Giles do around gangs.. During his talk Evan will discuss their work with multi-agency gangs units, how the model has developed and address some of the strengths and criticisms of the ‘gangs’ methodology.  Finally, Evan will consider some alternative approaches to this issue.

* The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is responsible for the prosecution of criminal cases in England and Wales which are investigated by the police and other investigative agencies.

**St Giles Trust works closely with multiple agencies across England and Wales delivering both preventative and rehabilitative support to children and young people affected by gangs, youth violence and criminal exploitation.
