Learn about sources of funding and funding applications for money and welfare rights advice services.

About this event

The benefits of access to good quality money and welfare rights advice services are well documented. In the current climate with household budgets increasingly stretched as a result of the cost-of-living crisis being able to get timely advice when needed is vital. Yet just as household budgets are stretched so too is the public purse. So what potential funding sources are available?

Hear from Karen Carrick, Evaluation Manager at the Improvement Service, in a session that will look at the current funding position of advice services and consider what options may be available in the future. It will seek to share ideas and information about what funding sources are available. It will also reflect on which funding applications have worked and equally which haven't and why this is the case.

If you have any funding related questions you would like addressed or considered during this session you can add these when booking. This will ensure that wherever possible the session will meet Money Guiders' expectations.

Who is leading this session?

  • Karen Carrick - Evaluation Manager at the Improvement Service

Who should attend?

The Money Guiders Programme

Money Guiders is a programme run by MaPS, which seeks to help money guidance practitioners improve their knowledge, skills and confidence. Everything that the Money Guiders programme offers centres around the Money Guidance Competency Framework - it's there to help you better understand the full breadth and depth of money related issues that fall outside of the regulated financial advice service sector - the things you talk to your customers about.

Before attending the session, you could spend some time considering the challenges you face in your work, specifically when you provide help and guidance to your clients or service users around money issues.

  • How do you spot potential problems?

  • How can you start conversations about money in a sensitive way and at the appropriate time?

  • How do you maintain good boundaries in your role as a money guidance practitioner within your main area of work?
