Money Guiders England Event (In-Person Event: London)

At this in person event we will share good practice in helping clients to reduce deficit budgets.

About this event

Are you helping people in your community or through your role with money problems?

In this day-long event we will take part in workshops to share good practice in helping clients to reduce and manage deficit budgets. There isn't always a way to help people completely out of deficit budgets, but together we will make sure that giving the best guidance we can and we know when and where to signpost to specialist advice.

Where in the past clients with deficits budgets may have mainly faced consumer credit debts, today more people we work with are presenting with challenges to pay primary bills such as council tax, gas and electricity or rent.

As well as hearing from speakers, we will be encouraging participants to share their own examples of good practice, so that through this Money Guiders England Network event we all experience being part of a living community of practice.

There will be plenty of opportunities for networking and getting to know our fellow money guidance practitioners.

Please note that this pilot in person event is limited to 60 participants so please book early to guarantee your place. If you find that you cannot come after all, please let us know so that we can offer your place to someone else.

Who is leading this session?

Alongside Jez Smith and Lucille Roache from Quaker Social Action, we have confirmed the following speakers:

  • Lorelei Freeman, Financial Capability Manager, Crosslight Advice
  • Pat Fernandes and Karen O'Sullivan, Advice 4 Renters
  • Victoria Copeland, Money and Pensions Service

If you feel that you have something to offer as a speaker at this event email jezsmith@qsa.org.uk

Who should attend?

A must attend event for money guiders including both volunteers and employees who deliver money guidance support from signposting to more complex guidance in organisations as well as anyone in community organisations and groups who helps others with money problems.

The Money Guiders Programme

Money Guiders is a programme run by MaPS, which seeks to help money guidance practitioners improve their knowledge, skills and confidence. Everything that the Money Guiders programme offers centres around the Money Guidance Competency Framework - it's there to help you better understand the full breadth and depth of money related issues that fall outside of the regulated financial advice service sector - the things you talk to your customers about.

Before attending the session, you could spend some time considering the challenges you face in your work, specifically when you provide help and guidance to your clients or service users around money issues.

  • How do you spot potential problems?

  • How can you start conversations about money in a sensitive way and at the appropriate time?

  • How do you maintain good boundaries in your role as a money guidance practitioner within your main area of work?
