Events - Northern Ireland

Starting 04 May 2023 - 11:00 through to 04 May 2023 - 12:00

This online event is a continuation from our event with GamCare that took place in person on the 14th of March. We wanted to make sure that we offered some additional spotlight on the Young Peoples Services that are available.

About this event

We will be joined by Bella who is a young people’s Support Lead at the National charity GamCare within their Young People’s Service. Her team provides support, guidance and psychosocial interventions to young people (11 – 18) who are being impacted by gambling related harm either by their own gambling/gaming behaviour, OR somebody else’s gambling.

Bella will be sharing the following:

  • Introduction to GamCare: What we do
  • Breakdown of our clients (young gamblers, gamers and affected others)
  • How to make a referral and the provision of support given

About the organisation: GamCare

GamCare is the leading provider of information, advice and support for anyone affected by gambling harms. We operate the National Gambling Helpline, provide support for young people affected by their own or someone else’s gambling as part of the Young People’s Support Service, create awareness about safer gambling and treatment, and encourage an effective approach to safer gambling within the gambling industry.

Who should attend?

All money guidance practitioners who are supporting service users with difficult conversations and anyone offering guidance to improve the financial wellbeing. It is for practitioners who are dealing with, or might come into contact with, members of the public who may be vulnerable, susceptible or impacted by gambling addictions.

The Money Guidance Competency Framework

This event is designed to help you improve your money guidance practice, developing skills, confidence and knowledge around a specific money related area. Everything that the Money Guiders programme offers centres around the Money Guidance Competency Framework - it's there to help you better understand the full breadth and depth of money related issues that fall outside of the regulated financial advice service sector - the things you talk to your customers about.

Which part of the competency framework applies to the event?

Foundation Level - Signposting customers and Safeguarding: all practitioners – no matter their job role – must be able to elicit simple, factual information from the customer in order to signpost them to appropriate sources of further support, advice or information.

Before attending this session, you could spend some time considering the challenges you face in your work, specifically when you provide help and guidance to your clients or service users around money issues.

Have your say!

If you find yourself talking about money with your clients or service users, we’d like to hear from you. Money and Pensions Service is keen to ensure we are doing all we can to support you and others in similar roles. To do this we need to learn more about YOU!
