York Handmade Brick Company have been manufacturing our unique range of beautiful handcrafted bricks, from on-site reserves of Triassic Mudstone clay for nearly 35 years.

Our bricks have been specified on some of the most iconic buildings in the UK, including the 2022 Stirling Prize winning Magdelene College Library, by multi award winning architects Niall McLaughlin.

As one of the few remaining hand made brick makers left in the UK, York Handmade have recently invested £1.5m into a state of the art production facility, which affirms our commitment to UK brickmaking and to innovation in clay brick.

Our webinar covers the history of handmade brick manufacture and usage in the UK, from their origins in Roman times, through to the present day – where their versatility and durability as a modern building material is more relevant than ever. Topics covered include the working processes of historical and modern handmade brick manufacture, the relevance, benefit and potential for using handmade bricks in our modern built environment, and the use of handmade bricks in modern methods of building systems and off-site building solutions.

This presentation aims to provide a greater understanding of:
– The history of one of the world’s oldest and most enduring building materials.
– How handmade bricks are manufactured, both historically and in a modern production environment.
– The technical and aesthetic benefits of using handmade bricks in our modern built environment.
