About this Event

It can help you get your life on track if you feel held back by challenging circumstances or difficult past experiences.

Who is it for?

Anyone living in on a low income who wants to get their life on track if they feel held back by challenging circumstances or difficult past experiences. But please note that, while this programme can help alleviate some mild-moderate mental health problems like anxiety or depression, it is NOT a therapeutic programme. So it’s not suitable for people currently experiencing a mental health or addiction-related crisis. If you have any questions about this, we are happy to discuss this with you.

At this event we will hear from the lead coach of the This Way Up project, sharing the achievements, lessons, successes and recommendations they've learned over 10 year period of the programme, and how money guiders can use these lessons to support their work.

  • How to help clients overcome the mental health barriers preventing them from better money management

Money Guidance Competency Framework

Money Guidance Competency Framework | Personal qualities A6: Rapport building

A key aspect of providing money guidance well is having an ability to empathise with a customers’ situation and gauging their current level of confidence and ability to manage their money. Practitioners should have an understanding of the importance of building trust and rapport with others, and methods for achieving this in different situations (e.g. over the phone, individuals and in groups) and for a range of people, including customers with challenging behaviours.

Money Guidance Competency Framework | Personal qualities: E2 Signposting clients

Signpost the customer to appropriate sources of further information or support, in line with organisational procedures.

Money Guidance Competency Framework | Personal qualities: Tier 1 Knowing your customer

This domain is about understanding who the customer is and their needs – which they may or may not be aware of – and draws on many of the cross-cutting behaviours and skills that underpin practice. It requires the practitioner to develop an understanding of their customers, including background, circumstances, expectations and goals.
