Titanic to Titan what have we learned, if anything

Events - Public

Starting 19 Mar 2024 - 19:00 through to 19 Mar 2024 - 20:30

Defining the project scope, goals and success criteria is fundamental in delivering projects, but it must be balanced by the attention to risk and being morally, legally and socially responsible and when projects go wrong learn from the mistakes.

The story of the Titanic and the great loss of life which was totally avoidable if shortcuts (typically termed "value engineering") had not been conducted ensuring critical safety elements were not compromised and the concerns of Engineers had not been overshadowed by the wants of the Marketers. But were lessons learnt? If they were, they were not applied when the vessel Titan was allowed to venture in the same water that claimed the sinking of the ship Titanic.

This workshop looks back in history at the causes that sank RMS Titanic in 1912 and the catastrophic loss of the submersible Titan vessel over 100 years later - were lessons learnt?
