This seminar will showcase how two different organisations are using trauma informed approaches to deliver positive impacts in their communities.

It is recognised that there is a greater concentration of children in the youth justice system with entrenched patterns of offending and complex needs, particularly those that stem from childhood trauma and adverse childhood experiences. In this seminar Kate will give an overview of the implementation of the Enhanced Case Management model (ECM), the Youth Justice Board’s approach to trauma informed practice in youth justice settings, including challenges and impact. Kate will also discuss the South West Trauma Informed project- a collaborative regional approach to trauma informed practice in youth justice settings. ECM Provides a bespoke approach acknowledges prevalence of trauma and ACE’s in their lives.

Dr Jo Hopkins will then discuss how Wales has co-created and produced an all of society trauma-informed Framework. The ACE Hub Wales is working with people, organisations and systems across Wales to implement the TrACE toolkit and Jo will discuss the challenges and opportunities of this approach.  During her talk Jo will also share how, using the resources developed to support the Framework, organisations and sectors in Wales are demonstrating the positive impact of becoming Trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences informed (TrACE) for their workforce, and for the people they work with and serve. Examples will include: education, the substance misuse sector, youth offending services, prisons and probation and Criminal Justice in Wales.
