Transparency

Please find some details from the recent Making Transparency work events held by the LGA in June. Examples from local authorities, community groups and business demonstrate that there is a great potential to create greater social and economic growth by making local data available and encouraging its use. This demonstrates that open data is not only about accountability and transparency to hold councils to account but much more to help the switch from public service provision to citizen, community and business based activities.

Please, look at the examples presented at all three events in London, Birmingham and York which may help you in further promoting the opening up of data in your own councils.http://esd.org.uk/esdtoolkit/News/NewsDetail.aspx?Item=768

I also encourage you to use the Local open data knowledge hub group for further discussions and collaboration. https://khub.net/group/localopendatacommunity

And finally, information about the breakthrough and release of data funding together with examples from previous local breakthrough fund projects is available on

The deadline for the next submission for funding is 16 July.

Many thanks Alex
