Brighton & Hove's Youth Employability Service-gearing up for #OurDay!

Youth Employability Service (YES) is part of Brighton & Hove City CouncilThe Youth Employability Service (YES) is part of Brighton & Hove City Council, providing information, advice and guidance to young people aged 16 - 19 who are not in education, employment or training and living in Brighton & Hove. The service offers a range of support to young people, both in an online and offline context. Young people can access free careers guidance, as well as support to boost employability through practical support, such as help with CV writing, job search, completing application forms and practising interview skills. YES also can provide support with sourcing and applying for work, college courses, apprenticeships and other training opportunities.

The service offers daily drop-ins across Brighton & Hove, giving young people the chance to access support in a location convenient to where they live. Young people engaging with the service are allocated their own Employability Adviser, who will work with them until they make a successful transition into the education, employment or training opportunity which is right for them. YES keeps in regular contact with all of the young people in the city who are not in education, employment or training, through face-to-face work, as well as through telephone and online contact.

The service also provides support online, via Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Young people can access general information via the service Facebook fan page, or communicate directly with their adviser through private messages. Twitter allows the service to promote opportunities and engage with the community more widely, whilst the service uses YouTube to create useful mini films supporting employability and service access.

YES also consists of a team of LDD (Learning Difficulty and Disability) advisers, working with young people in local secondary schools with a Statement of Special Educational Needs, to ensure a successful transition from secondary education to post 16 opportunities.
