2-4-6-8 who do you appreciate?

In 2010, Jeremiah Owyang declared every 4th Monday in January as “Community Manager Appreciation Day.”  This day is meant to recognise and celebrate efforts of group managers/facilitators around the world. Wikipedia.

It’s pretty awesome that community management/facilitation is now seen as an important role and that it gets its own special day.

As we all know, there are quite a few community managers/facilitators out there on the Knowledge Hub in Local Government and the wider Public Sector

@sueontheweb says “A Community Facilitator is part detective, part sociologist, part bouncer, part concierge, part tough guy/woman, part big softie”

The role of the facilitator is tough, they have a multiply roles and sometimes can be classed as Jack of all trades and if you had the chance to look inside the mind of a community facilitator that’s what it would look like.

They very rarely get a thank you or even ask for one, for the time and effort that they put into to making the community a success.  They are the unsung heroes on the Knowledge Hub

So if you have a moment please say thank you to your community facilitator.

How can you do that you ask.

  • Well you can direct message them.
  • You can send them a thank you card (Today is out first thank you cards)
  • You can write a blog post highlighting the fabulous work done by your group facilitator
  • You can mention them on twitter using the hashtag #cmad
  • You can make them a cup of tea (or something similar)
  • You can get them a cake (or something similar).
  • You can phone them up and have a chat and say thank you.

It’s really up to you.  But please take a moment to say thank you to the hard work that your group facilitators does with your group.

You can copy and paste the image below into a direct message to say thank you.
